Quick fix for Firefox 3 bug with Yahoo Mail

If you use Firefox 3 and Yahoo Mail (the nice new interface, not Classic), you might be dealing with a bug I’ve noticed where the message pane scrollbar doesn’t display. It’s not a game-breaker, as you can still use the page-down and page-up keys to navigate, but it’s an annoyance.

Mozilla has renewed an agreement with Google Inc. that pays the browser maker for assigning Google’s search engine as Firefox’s default, Mozilla’s former CEO said this week.

Google Reverses “Absurd” Mozilla Code Ban

Barence writes “Google has reversed its decision to ban projects created under the Mozilla Public License from being hosted on its Google Code site. Google banned the license in August, claiming it wanted to ‘make a statement against open-source license proliferation’ which it blamed for hindering the cross-pollination of code from one project to another. Chris DiBona, of Google’s open source team, described its decision to ban the MPL as ‘absurd,’ citing the community’s huge popularity.” Jamie mentions that the issue was raised from the floor at OSCON at the Google Open Source Update panel, with DiBona on stage.Read more of this story at Slashdot.

Privacy feature in Internet Explorer 8 leaks private data

The InPrivate Browsing feature built into the second beta version of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 8 browser is designed to delete a user’s browsing history and other personal data that is gathered and stored during regular browsing sessions. The feature is commonly referred to as ‘porn mode’ for its ability to hide which websites have been visited from nosy spouses or employers. But forensic experts say the ‘privacy option in this beta is mainly cosmetic.’

Security the key for IE 8 in beta version 2

Microsoft’s updated browser, Internet Explorer 8, promises an assortment of new features, with the goals of making Web browsing with IE safer, easier, and more compatible with Net standards. We looked at Beta 2. On the surface, IE 8 seems to be a lot like IE 7, but Microsoft has made a good number of changes. However, you may have seen some of the new features in its no-longer-upstart competitor, Mozilla Firefox 3.
